Later man would learn to etch and paint leaving stories for future generations to read. We wonder what compelled them to tell the stories, was it to remember. To communicate what they had done. Was it to plan an attack or teach their children how to hunt. We also wondered why their modern day counterparts write; so we asked them. Below you can find the actual break down by the major reasons why writers write.

How we found out Why Writers Write As is the case with all research, it is important to explain how we reached the end results. Our first step was asking over published authors why they write. Their answers where quite detailed, many explaining events that took place to make them write; as well as explaining their reasoning. Many authors 37 to be exact also gave us more than one reason why they write, so we made sure to include their secondary reasons.

We used a weighting system to get a fair percentage on the secondary reasons they have for writing. Authors being authors employed their extensive vocabularies to describe similar reasons in different ways; we simplified their responses into the segmentation you can see in the chart. By expression we mean the intention to express an emotion, idea, feeling, concept and thought.

Why Writer Tina B. I often wake up in the wee hours of the morning with story ideas that I just have to get out. My subconscious makes it impossible for me not to write. The ideas will keep nagging me until I get them written down. I write to inspire kids. I try to write books that are fast paced. I was actually one of those kids, so I can fully relate to them.

Authors expressed this feeling in many ways, we included authors that blatantly claimed they could not survive if they did not write as well as authors that stated that writing was intrinsic to their identity and to some extent a part of their DNA.

Good songs to write poems to

Listen to the Masters 1 Work out the melody, if music is what starts to happen in your mind. You just begin at the beginning without words. That beginning is to know what works best for you. Many songwriters, such as Peter Gabriel, work out the music before they work out the lyrics. They may sing nonsense syllables just to get a sense of how the lyrics and music might work together.

One of the most famous, most covered songs in history was created this way. The composer woke up one morning with the melody in his head, and sang "Scrambled eggs, oh you've got such lovely legs" as the lyrics as he developed the song. He eventually figured it out, and that's how Paul McCartney wrote the song "Yesterday. His "lyrics" are just word-sounds. Link people find this a much more difficult row to hoe—there's a big difference between poetry and song, and without a solid musical foundation, there are many hurdles to overcome to fit music to the lyrics. Still, when the muse strikes, who really cares if she hits you with the words or the melody first.

Grab the inspiration and run with it. One composer became very well known working with a lyricist: Elton John, putting the lyrics of Bernie Taupin to music. When it's done well, it's very good. Most songs have a recognizable formula: The intro, a verse or two with a chorus, a bridge, followed by another verse and chorus, and then out. This can be strictly instrumental, a part of the chorus, or something completely off the wall.

For example, "Rocky Raccoon" by the Beatles starts with a talky introduction describing the character and setting the stage for the song. This is the majority of most songs—though not necessarily the most important part. This is the exposition, describing the scene, or the person, or an emotion. Very often there read more two or three verses in a row that have the same musical structure, the same rhyme and poetic meter, but different words.

After a horrible case of "blogger's block," I lettre took to Instagram to ask my fellow artists and followers what they would like to see me blog about. And woah baby, I'm so glad I did Even though today's post wasn't a proposed topic, this idea came to me while reading all the awesome suggestions. Come up with 50 ways to write each letter of the alphabet. Just my own creativity and a pencil. Surprise, I'm a human.

Even when I was only halfway there, I knew I could come up with 25 more variations, if not more. Now, when it comes to the letter 'I,' I'll probably eat my words: I completed this project on regular copy paper. I began by sketching out one row of ideas at a time, then I went back over the sketches in ink. Once the ink had dried, I erased my pencil marks. Once I filled up one side, I moved to the other side, in a conscious effort to conserve paper.

After coming up with 50 variations of the letter 'A,' it is safe to say I have my favorites. However, I am going to file these away for future reference. Here's a closer look This exercise was SO awesome for steadying my hand while controlling the fine tip of the Micron, that I wanted to get in some brush lettering practice as well. Instead of tracing these letter forms which I'm going to do laterI simply referenced the original sheet of A's and copied them with my brush pens. It's pretty amazing how different the differejt of each 'A' is when it's done in a brush pen.
